Above, the speaker for the meeting was Compatriot Rex Legler II who displayed guns and long rifles for the Revolutionary War period and explained the differences in them and also how they were used in the battles. Rex is also the current Vice-President of the Central District of the SAR and Treasurer of the Daniel Guthrie Chapter SAR.

In the photo are the evenings speaker Rev. Sam Allman and wife Brenda, and Sam was speaker to kick off the Louisville Veteran's Hospital Christmas Gift Drive. Sam is the Pastor of the Full Gospel Apostolic Tabernacle in Brownstown.The church continues to be one of the largest donors.

The speaker for the David Benton SAR meeting was Compatriot Ed Cozart who told of David Wooster 1711 - 1777) an American general who served in the French and Indian War and in the American Revolutionary War. He died of wounds sustained during the Battle of Ridgefield, Connecticut. Cities, schools, and public places including Wooster, Indiana, were named after him. He has been called "a largely forgotten hero of the Revolution.He told of the life of Wooster who served in the Rev. War.

 July 14, 2011
The David Benton Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution met at the Brownstown Dairy Queen July 19th and the speaker was David Benton President Jerry Brown who told the story on why the Revolutionay War Patriots really fought in the revolution. It was not what most text books attempt to teach. It was not totally their patriotic duty but, the fact they expected to receive pay or land for their service. Also, the full size flags (American and SAR) and their bases (given by Jerry Brown and James Harvey) were dedicated to the David Benton Chapter's use. The next meeting is August 11th.

 June 9, 2011
The David Benton Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution met at the Brownstown Dairy Queen June 9th and the speaker was District 3 Director Edward Hitchcock who told about his ancestor Daniel Guthrie and what he did the the American Revolution. Our next meeting is July 14th.

 May 12, 2011
The speaker for the David Benton SAR meeting was Ronald Burkhart who spoke on the Military Disipline of the Armed Forces and the changes from Roman times, through the Revolutionary War and until the present time. Also, in the photo is his wife Kathy and President Jerry Brown.
Also at this meeting, Mr. Edgar Hackman was awarded the Good Citizenship Metal and Certificate for his many contributions to the community in education as a teacher, agriculture awards and for serving on the Jackson County Fair and the Indiana State Fair boards.

 April 14, 2011
The David Benton SAR Chapter met in the Dairy Queen in Brownstown. In the photo, Jim Harvey was the speaker and he spoke on the last battle of the Revolutionary War at Blue Licks in Kentucky. The Battle of Blue Licks, fought on August 19, 1782, was one of the last battles of the American Revolutionary War. The battle occurred ten months after Lord Cornwallis's famous surrender at Yorktown, which had effectively ended the war in the east. On a hill next to the Licking River in what is now Robertson County, Kentucky (but was then in Kentucky County, Virginia), a force of about 50 Canadian and American Loyalists along with 300 American Indians ambushed and routed 182 Kentucky militiamen. It was the worst defeat for the Kentuckians during the frontier war.
Our next meeting is May 12th.

The David Benton SAR Chapter met in the Dairy Queen in Brownstown. In the photo, Rev. Craig Mulbach, the pastor at St Johns, Sauers was our speaker.He related memories of his experience as a Chaplin, especially while doing duty in Iraq. He also related some of the data of his background before he became a minister at Sauers. He received an Army Medal Certificate for his work overseas and continuing even at the present in the military.
Also at this meeting, Sergeant Jerry Goodin with the State Police Post out of Sellersburg, was awarded the Outstanding Law Enforcement Award for his service. He told some stories about his experiences.
 Also at thie meeting, EMT Amber Garner was awarded the Outstanding EMT for the year. She also related some of her experiences while in the duty situations.

Also at this meeting, Compatriot Edward E. Hitchcock installed the 2011 Officers of the David Benton Chapter.

Here is a picture from the grave marking, the David Benton chapter SAE, the Daniel Guthrie Chapter SAR the Genral Charles Scott Chapter DAR and Richard Lord Jones Society CAR plus the Indiana State Sons Of The American Revolution color Guard took part. There were between 60-70 people in attendance. The picture is of the 20 people who were related to Jacob Young in attendance. |

| About the SAR |

| The objects of the Sons of the American
Revolution are to perpetuate the memory of the people and events of
the American Revolution, to maintain the institutions of American
Freedom, and to promote fellowship among the descendants of
Revolutionary War Patriots.
Some of the notable activities of the Sons of the American
Revolution include:
- Arrange with local high schools for their participation in the
Joseph S. Rumbaugh Historical Oration Contest.
- Arrange with local high school authorities for participation
by students who are in their junior or Senior year in the George
S. and Stella M. Knight Essay Contest.
- Place and dedicate SAR bonze markers at the graves of members
and/or Revolutionary War verterans.
- Furnish capable and interesting speakers to schools,
organizations, public meetings, and other similar events and
gatherings.
- Sponsor or participate in celebrations of historic events and
national holidays.
Our chapter conducts many more
activities than these listed, but this list has been kept short for
sake of brevity. |

| Membership Qualifications |
|
Any male shall be eligible for
membership in the Society who, is a citizen of good repute in the
community, is the lineal descendant of an ancestor who was at all
times unfailing in loyalty to, and rendered active service in the
cause of American Independence either as an officer, soldier,
seaman, marine, militiamen or minuteman, in the armed forces of the
Continental Congress, or those of any one of the several Colonies or
States, as a signer of the Declaration of Independence, as a member
of a Committee of Safety or Correspondence, as a member of any
Continental, Provincial, or Colonial Congress or Legislature, as a
foreign national of, but not limited to, France, Poland, Spain,
Sweden, Switzerland or Germany who came to North America and
rendered service in the cause of American Independence or as a
recognized patriot who performed actual service by overt acts of
resistance to the authority of Great Britain, provided, however,
that no person advocating the overthrow of the Government of the
United States by use of force or violence shall be eligible for
membership in the Society.

The Sons of the American Revolution is a non-profit, United States
501(c)3, corporation devoted to historical and educational preservation

American revolutionary heritage. As a patriotic lineage society, the
organization is comprised of the male descendants of patriots who
supported the cause of American Independence during the years
1774-1783.

DAVID BENTON OBITS:
SCOTTSBURG,IN: THOMAS BENJAMIN EVERITT 85, died in a house fire Saturday, December 13, 2008. He was owner of the old Scott County Concrete Products and the old Airlite Perlite Processing Companies. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, member of the David Benton Sons of the American Revolution, Moose Family Center #2324 and the American Legion Post # 234. Survivors include wife, Frances K. (Allen) Everitt; two sons, Thomas F. (Diann) and Benjamin A. (Janet) Everitt; two daughters, Kathleen Jones and Eve D. (Dale) Hickey; and eight grandchildren. Funeral service was at Collins Funeral Home with burial in the Everitt Family Cemetery.
